13.01.2018 The first round of the election of the President: election turnout 61.9%

Two candidates with highest numbers of votes will go to the second round of the election of the President of the Czech Republic: Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš. The election turnout was 61.9%.

Voters were choosing among nine candidates in the historically second direct election of the President of the CR. Miloš Zeman won 38.6% of votes, the second Jiří Drahoš 26.6%. Both the candidates were nominated to the election by citizens.

“The highest support belonged to Miloš Zeman in the municipality of Chobot in the Strakonice area, namely 83.9%. Jiří Drahoš received the highest share of votes in Staňkovice in the Litoměřice area, namely 75.0%. The biggest difference in the share of votes between the two candidates advancing to the run-off was in Syrov in the Pelhřimov area,” Eva Krumpová, Vice-President of the CZSO summarised.

Other candidates did not advance to the second round that will be carried out on 26 and 27 January. Pavel Fischer won 10.2% of votes. Michal Horáček was the fourth with 9.2%. Marek Hilšer received 8.8%. Mirek Topolánek was supported by 4.3% of voters, Jiří Hynek by 1.2%, Petr Hannig by 0.6%, and Vratislav Kulhánek by 0.5%.

“100% election turnout was in the municipality of Čilá in the Rokycany area. On the contrary, the lowest one was in Vřesová in the Sokolov area, namely 22.8%,” Marek Rojíček, the Vice-President of the CZSO, said.

In the Trutnov electoral district No 39, concurrently with the first round of the presidential election also the second round of additional senatorial election was carried out. Jan Sobotka was elected senator; he won 67.11% of votes.

On Monday, the Czech Statistical Office will submit election results to be approved by the State Electoral Committee.
