5:30am ET May 18th

Showers and storms are ongoing and developing this morning across areas to our west. While none are currently severe, probabilities for severe storms will increase from west to east this morning as storms move east across the forecast area. The main concerns will be isolated/scattered damaging wind gusts and hail in severe-warned storms. The tornado threat is low today, but one or two tornadoes across the area can't be ruled out. The severe threat will lessen from west to east in the afternoon and evening hours after the complex has moved through.

In addition to the severe threat, the heavy rain potential still remains. New rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are forecast along a corridor extending from the Panhandle into southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia. Localized new rainfall amounts could be as high as 4 inches this afternoon. Because of this, the flood watch has been expanded south and east into parts of the Panhandle, Big Bend, and south-central GA. Make sure to stay weather aware today!
