Steel Mainline (19.03.2024)

On 19 March 2024, the Bank of Russia issues a 3-ruble silver commemorative coin ‘50 Years Since the Launch of Construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline’ of the Historical Events series (Catalogue No. 5111-0498).

The Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) is one of the world’s largest railways that runs across Eastern Siberia and the Far East. Its length is about 4,300 km. The route goes through an area with harsh environmental conditions, as well as areas of permafrost and high seismicity. The BAM crosses seven large mountain ranges and 11 deep rivers.

The 3-ruble silver coin (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) has a round shape and is 39.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and the reverse of the coin have a relief rim around the circumference.

The obverse of the coin features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: ‘?????????? ?????????’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘???? ??????’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin ‘3 ?????’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2024 ?.’ (2024), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.

The reverse of the coin features relief images of railway stations in the town of Tynda (left) and the settlement of Ulkan (right), an electric locomotive, a spruce on a rock and a house from one of the series designed for the BAM settlements, as well as stylised images of a waving curtain and freight wagons, mountains and forests laser-treated for matte finishing; there are relief inscriptions: ‘Baikal-Amur Mainline’ around the lower circumference and ‘50 YEARS’ at the top right in a frame in two lines.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3,000 pcs.

The new coin is legal tender of the Russian Federation and is mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at its face value.
