In 2025, 4.8% of people aged 16 or over in the EU consumed alcohol every day. The share of people who consumed alcohol every week was 19.2%, and 21.8% for those consuming every month.
As such, majority of people either consumed alcohol less frequently than every month (20.7%) or had never consumed alcohol or had not done so in 2025 (33.5%).
Within the EU, daily, weekly and monthly drinking of alcohol were more common among men than women: in 2025, 56.5% of men consumed alcohol at least every month, compared with 35.9% for women.
The share of the EU population consuming alcohol every day increased with age, from 0.8% among people aged from 16 to 24 to 8.9% among people aged 65 or over.

People at risk of poverty or social exclusion were less likely to consume alcohol than those not at risk. Consequently, the share of those who had never consumed alcohol or had not done so during the previous year was much higher for people at risk of poverty or social exclusion (47.5%) than for those not at risk (29.9%).
