Demand of foreign guests stagnated after five years of growth

In the Q2 2026, 6.4 million guests in total accommodated in collective accommodation establishments; they spent 15.1 million nights there. The total number of arrivals increased by 0.5%, year-on-year (y-o-y), and the number of overnight stays increased by 0.3%.

The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments in the Q2 2026 reached 15.1 million nights in total. Residents spent 8.1 million nights in the establishments in Czechia and guests from abroad spent 7.1 million nights there. The year-on-year growth by 0.3% was supported by the number of overnight stays of non-residents (an increase by 0.7%), the number of overnight stays of domestic guests stagnated, year-on-year.
“In the Q2 2026, 6.4 million guests in total arrived in collective accommodation establishments, which was by 0.5% more compared to the corresponding period of 2025,” Markéta Borovičková, Tourism and Environmental Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), stated. The numbers of accommodated domestic guests increased by 0.9%; however, the demand of foreign guests for accommodation stagnated, year-on-year, for the first time since the Q2 2021.
The number of guests in hotels in the period from April to June 2026 increased, y-o-y, by 1.5% and 4.5 million guests in total came to accommodate in this type of accommodation. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of residents increased there by 4.0%, whereas the number of non-residents decreased by 0.4%. Four-star hotels are the most visited category of accommodation for a long time. They reported an increase in the number of guests by 1.4% and in the number of nights spent by 0.5% in the Q2 2026. Over 800 thousand guest arrived in boarding houses; they spent there almost 1.8 million nights. Other collective accommodation establishments including tourist campsites recorded a y-o-y decrease in arrivals by 2.9% and the number of overnight stays dropped by 2.3%.
In terms of comparison of Regions, the total number of accommodated guests increased, y-o-y, in half of the Regions in the Q2 2026. The highest growth rate was recorded by the Moravskoslezský Region, the Královéhradecký Region, and the Liberecký Region. An increase was also recorded in the Plzeňský Region, the Zlínský Region, the Jihočeský Region, and the Středočeský Region. Other Regions reported a decrease . The biggest decrease in the number of arrivals was recorded in the Karlovarský Region, namely by 4.3%. In Prague, 2.2 million guests accommodated , who spent there 5 million nights . Almost 625 thousand guests arrived in the Jihomoravský Region; in the Jihočeský Region, over 500 thousand guests accommodated . Guests also spent over 1 million nights in the Karlovarský Region, in the Jihomoravský Region, in the Jihočeský Region, and in the Královéhradecký Region.
In total, 2.9 million foreign guests (non-residents; by citizenship) accommodated in collective accommodation establishments in the Q2 2026. The highest number of guests came from Germany to accommodate in Czechia, as usual (650 thousand). A y-o-y decrease in the number of arrivals by 0.6% was recorded as for them. Further, the following accommodated in Czechia: guests from Slovakia (262 thousand) and from Poland (255 thousand). Almost 1.8 million nights was spent in Czechia by guests from Germany, 521 thousand nights by guests from Slovakia, and almost 500 thousand nights also by guests from the United States of America and from Poland.
