Increase of Import Prices Continued to be influenced by Fuel Prices

In May 2026, export prices increased by 0.8% in both month-on-month and year-on-year comparisons. Import prices increased month-on-month by 0.7%, year-on-year comparison by 3.2%. The terms of trade reached month-on-month the value of 100.1%, year-on-year 97.7%.

Export prices
In month-on-month comparison, export prices increased by 0.8% ( after exchange rate adjustment by 0.9% ). The biggest increase was recorded in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘chemicals and chemical products’ and in ‘basic metals’, by 6.9%, 5.1% and 2.1%, respectively. The prices decreased significantly in ‘products of forestry, logging and related services’ and in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, by 2.6% and 2.3%, respectively.
In year-on-year comparison, export prices increased by 0.8% (after exchange rate adjustment by 3.3%). The prices increased significantly in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ and in ‘ products of forestry, logging and related services ’, by 50.0%, 19.0% and 13.2%, respectively. Significantly, prices decreased in ‘food products’ and in ‘paper and paper products’, by 7.5% and 6.5%, respectively.
Import prices
In month-on-month comparison, import prices increased by 0.7% ( after exchange rate adjustment by 0.9% ). Significantly, prices increased in ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’, ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ and in ‘chemicals and chemical products’, by 6.2%, 5.4% and 2.9%, respectively. The prices decreased in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ and in ‘food products’ by 5.1% and 0.9%, respectively.
In year-on-year comparison , import prices increased by 3.2% (after exchange rate adjustment by 5.7%). The prices increased significantly in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ’crude petroleum and natural gas’ and in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, by 68.7%, 30.6% and 28.9%, respectively. The biggest decrease was recorded in ‘wearing apparel’ and in ‘food products’, by 10.0% and 9.2%, respectively.
“In May, year-on-year export and import prices increased by 0.8% and 3.2%, respectively. The prices of ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ increased significantly in export by 50.0% and in import by 68.7% . This increase was subdued by the year-on-year appreciation of the koruna exchange rate against the euro and the dollar, ” Vladimír Klimeš, Head of the Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office, noted.
The terms of trade
In month-on-month comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 100.1% (98.2% in April). Significant positive value reached ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ (103.0%) and negative value reached ‘furniture’ (98.5%).
In year-on-year comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 97.7% (97.9% in April). Significant negative value reached ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ (88.9%) and positive value reached ‘machinery and equipment’ (103.9%).
