As a follow-up to the virtual meeting between Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton and Canada's Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne on 1st February, the EU and Canada discussed next steps for increased cooperation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum science and semiconductors, public policy related to online platforms, secure international connectivity, and cyber security.

The meeting confirmed both sides share a positive, inclusive, and human-centric vision of the digital economy and society where the design, development, governance, and use of technology are guided by democratic values and respect for fundamental rights.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Roberto Viola, Director General of Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT), European Commission, Simon Kennedy, Deputy Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED), Canada, and Isabelle Mondou, Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage.
