Summer 2023 (June-August) = ABSURD heat & storminess.

Tallahassee had its 3rd-hottest summer on record by avg temp. The 7 100° & 51 95° days were both top-6 most on record! It was also very dry thanks to heat waves suppressing convection & an often pinned-down seabreeze closer to the coast. 🥵

We issued 28 Heat Advisories & 13 Excessive Heat Warnings! August alone accounted for ~66% of our heat products, which also became the new hottest month on record for Tallahassee at 86.4°! Those numbers are by far the most in our office's history!

Rain was a different story for SW GA. Numerous instances of storms coming in from the NW contributed to 23.39" of rain at Albany (8th wettest summer on record) & 29.71" at Valdosta (wettest summer on record). The latter also got a major precip spike from Hurricane Idalia.

Lastly, here are our Summer 2023 convective stats: 🧮

366 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings ⛈️

276 wind reports in June, alone (breaks 2015 record) 🌬️

44 Tornado Warnings, all in June (15 confirmed breaks 1989 record) 🌪️

50 Flash Flood Warnings ☔

935 Local Storm Reports (428 in June) 📝
