Commissioner Simson in Tbilisi for EU-Georgia High-Level Energy Dialogue

Tomorrow (16 November), Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will be in Tbilisi, Georgia, to participate in the first EU-Georgia High-Level Energy Dialogue.

This dialogue comes after months of intense common work in the field of energy. The discussions will focus on alignment with key EU energy legislation, development of energy infrastructure and connectivity, and promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy. It comes in the context of the Commission recommending last week to grant Georgia the status of EU candidate country.

Commissioner Simson will co-chair the High-Level Dialogue with the Vice-Prime Minister for Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili. The Dialogue will be an opportunity to take stock of the progress Georgia is making on their energy market reforms and the steps taken on the implementation of EU rules. Discussions will further focus on funding instruments and attracting investments in Georgia’s energy infrastructure and its energy transition. Developing energy efficiency and renewable energy will be a central topic of discussion, also in the context of the upcoming COP28 UN Climate Conference.

At the end of the dialogue, Commissioner Simson and Vice-Prime Minister Davitashvili will hold a press conference which will be available on EbS.

The Commissioner and the Vice-Prime Minister will then visit the Qartli wind power station which the EU financially supported via the Green Growth Fund. It is the first project of its kind in the Caucausus region, and demonstrates the concrete impact of the EU’s support for energy infrastructure development in Georgia.
